Synthetic Texts - An Anthology

For nearly eight decades, machines have written. But only now, with the proliferation of advanced large language models, has the distinction between mere generation and meaningful creation become so urgent.

This anthology has no interest in feeding the AI hype, nor in celebrating the power of machines. It is rather a landmark collection of machine-generated literature that has been subjected to the one thing missing from the digital deluge: rigorous human judgment. Guided by a principle of curatorial integrity, this volume rejects both the dismissal of machine-generated writing as inherently inferior and the indiscriminate mass-production of texts without human oversight.

Across a wide range of creative genres, these selections explore the breadth of the machine’s capabilities while honestly confronting its limits. Each piece is transparently framed—whether purely AI-generated, human-written, or the result of a human–AI collaboration—with accompanying notes and commentary that form an essential curatorial layer. This paratext is not supplementary; it is the very lens through which this new literary landscape must be viewed.

More than an anthology, this is an intellectual statement. It affirms that human curation, selection, and context are not merely incidental to the age of AI, but indispensable. The result is a collection of substantive, thought-provoking texts that ask not just what machines can accomplish, but what we, as readers and editors, decide truly matters.
